Documents for Entry and Visa Requirements for Thailand

Citizens of Russia (as well as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, and other CIS countries) are allowed visa-free entry for up to 60 days, including extension. This has been possible since the end of 2023.

• Visa-free stay – 30 days (with a one-time extension of another 30 days).
• Extension is processed at the nearest immigration office, usually within one day.
• Return tickets and proof of accommodation may still be requested upon entry — it is advisable to have them ready.

If You Plan to Stay Longer

Several visa types are available for longer stays in Thailand. Here are the most popular for 2025:

Tourist Visa (TR)

Single-entry:

• Entry for 60 days.
• On-site extension: additional 30 days.
• Total stay: up to 90 days.

Double-entry:

• First entry: 60 days + 30-day extension.
• Then re-entry for another 60 + 30 days.
• You must leave the country between entries (e.g., to Laos or Malaysia).

Education Visa (ED)

• Purpose: study (commonly Thai, English, or martial arts).
• Valid for up to 1 year.
• Requires renewal and immigration reporting every 90 days.
• Multiple exits allowed with a Re-entry Permit.

Business Visa (Non-B)

• Purpose: employment or company registration.
• Work Permit is mandatory.
• Valid for 3–12 months, with renewal options.
• Requires confirmation from a Thai company or partners.

Retirement Visa (Non‑O Retirement)

• Available from age 50.
• Requirements: at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank (or 65,000 THB monthly pension).
• Visa issued for 1 year, renewable annually.
• Must report to immigration every quarter.

Elite Visa (Thailand Elite Visa)

• Privileged paid state program.
• Packages available for 5, 10, or 20 years.
• Cost: from 900,000 THB.
• No routine renewals; includes VIP services, fast-track, and assistance with banking and immigration.

Required Documents for Visa Application

Depending on the visa type and applicant status, the document set may vary. Below is a basic list:

For Adults:

• Passport (valid for at least 6 months).
• Two color photos (3×4 cm).
• Copy of passport’s bio page.
• Completed immigration card (TM.6 – on the plane or online).

• Proof of financial means:

  • Bank statement (at least 20,000 THB per person or currency equivalent); or
  • Traveler’s cheques or sponsor letter.
• Hotel or rental accommodation booking.
• Return flight ticket.

If You Are Not Employed:

• Letter from a sponsor (relative/partner).
• Sponsor’s employment certificate and bank statement.

For Families with Children:

• All parents’ documents, plus:

  • Child’s birth certificate (with English translation).
  • Consent from the other parent, if only one travels.
  • Child’s photo affixed next to parent’s photo (if the child does not have a separate passport).

For Retirees:

• Pension certificate or PFR statement (translated).
• Thai bank statement (minimum 800,000 THB, held at least 60 days before applying).

Important Notes

• Overstaying visa or entry stamp is a serious violation. The fine is 500 THB/day (up to a maximum of 20,000 THB). Severe violations can lead to deportation and blacklisting.
• All documents in Russian must be accompanied by notarized English translations.
• If your address in Thailand changes, you must notify immigration.
• For long-term stays, you must submit form TM.30 (residence notification) and TM.47 (90-day reporting).

Processing Times

• Applications can be submitted in person or via an authorized representative (with notarized power of attorney).
• Processing time: 1 to 5 working days, depending on visa type and consulate workload.
• Consular fees are mandatory, including for children.
